The City’s Downtown Master Plan is conceptualized as a “big-picture” vision that will direct City projects and involvement for the revitalization of Downtown. Throughout the Master Planning Process, San Marcos citizens agreed that the City should assume an active role in the revitalization of Downtown as a vibrant, regionally-competitive town center. Participants also strongly agreed that San Marcos’ Downtown has a unique quality of character that the city should protect and enhance through future development.

These main goals as expressed by the community became the foundation for the Downtown Master Plan. Future City Policies and follow-on Capital Improvement Projects should support the Downtown Master Plan vision described within this document, as it is a direct representation of the combined opinions of San Marcos citizens. The recommendations in this plan include: · San Marcos Identity and Placemaking · Build a Strong Brand and Image for the Downtown that is unique but ties-into San Marcos’ overall marketing strategy. · Generate well-developed products (websites, media campaigns) to promote Downtown.
